Were the children of yesteryear happier?

Through the publication Ideal.es we know the results of a survey conducted by the Center for Andalusian Studies of adults in the community. She wondered if today's children are happier than they were in their childhood and the results show that 46% of respondents think they were happier in their childhood than today's children even though they can now enjoy privileges that our parents would hardly provide us with, highly technological toys, much less strict educational measures, food wealth and greater understanding on the part of the parents.

There are many improvements for the children's group, but the misfortune is that they are mostly materialistic improvements that in many cases try to replace the lack of dedication of parents to be due to their labor obligations. The adults surveyed state that there is little affection, that children are not educated with solid ethical and moral bases, or that they enjoy too much freedom among other aspects. Another highlight is the introduction to consumerism and in which we all participate, media, parents, etc., unconsciously advocate our children to embrace materialism with more emphasis. All parents want the best for our children and provide a toy, a garment or a special food as a symbol of quality in front of us and others, it is not surprising that children become materialists if we ourselves can encourage them to it. Adults try to replace the lack of time dedicated to children with things that are really vain, it is more important to spend time with our children, play with them, chat ... everything that strengthens sentimental ties, in fact we have spoken several times in Babies and more on these issues.

Playing with our children, eating with them, doing some kind of physical activity together, helping them in school tasks or telling us about the day to day when we are separated, are some of the tips we have always provided. The children of yesteryear, both those who are now parents and those who are already grandparents, enjoyed more time from their parents, which translates into greater well-being, flowering of feelings, values, approach, respect ...

All changes in the way of education, the current pace of life, etc., are forging unmotivated children, just have to take a look at the figures of truancy. Perhaps material need and lack are effective weapons for children to develop those lost values.
