Increased cases of autism could be related to mercury contamination

In the last decade the cases of autism have been increasing and in spite of how much research has been done on this condition, it still raises many questions today.

Well today I read in the news that scientists from the University of Texas have conducted a study that although it is not conclusive, he has found that there is a statistical relationship between mercury contamination levels and the increase in autism cases.

For some time several investigations have associated mercury with the disease.

In this new study, specialists conducted their research examining data from various power plants and industrial facilities in Texas and autism levels in the 1,040 state schools. The data obtained in the study reveal according to the news that "For every 454 kilos of mercury emitted by all industrial sources to the environment in Texas in 1998 there was an increase of the order of 2.6% in autism rates in Texas school districts in 2002."

And they also found that "The incidence of autism decreased between 1 and 2% for every 16 kilometers of distance between the population studied and the source of contamination."

Autism, as my partner Elda explained in the 10 questions not yet answered about autism, is a disorder of brain development that manifests itself in children from an early age and causes alterations in their behavior and in their ability to communicate with the environment .

The causes of this disease are unknown and every day more children are affected by this disability on which much remains to be studied.
