It is time to adopt a heart-healthy life to take care of our hearts

On Saturday, September 29, the World Heart Day, and with that motive, various recreational and informative activities are celebrated throughout the world in order that the population knows what are the risk factors for contracting cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and how they can be prevented.

Children are also vulnerable to CVD: the risk of developing them can begin during the development of the fetus and increase during childhood due to an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and exposure to tobacco smoke.

From Peques and Más we invite you to know the Heart Foundation, and with it the acts that have already begun to develop in our country.

The World Heart Federation leads globally the fight against cardiovascular disease and heart attack, dedicating a special effort to low- and middle-income countries, through a community in which more than 200 organizations that concentrate the effort of medical societies and heart foundations from more than 100 countries join.

Today we have an opportunity to prevent the future impact of cardiovascular disease and heart attack, adopting a heart-healthy life from childhood and throughout our lives

What can we do to make our families' hearts healthy?

  • Perform physical activity regularly.

  • Maintain a heart-healthy diet, excluding foods high in sugar, salt and trans fats, or saturated. And improving the intake of fruits and vegetables.

  • Avoid exposure to tobacco smoke

  • Keep us informed

Cardiovascular diseases and children

Modern society exposes children to a number of risk factors, including: diets with many calories and high in saturated, trans and sugar fats; sedentary activities, such as computer games, that do not stimulate physical activity; and, in addition, in some countries advertising promotes tobacco consumption and smoke-laden environments.
