What better gift than to accompany girls to know and love themselves through a story? Interview with Carla Trepat

Carla Trepat it has been proposed to edit a beautiful story written and illustrated by her, wants to have a print run of 300 copies for the month of November. To this end he has resorted to patronage, so that all those interested in contributing variable amounts of money to the project can do so through Verkami.

The story is called 'Lilith's treasure', it is aimed at girls from five years old, and intends to talk to them about sexuality, pleasure and the menstrual cycle, in a close way.

On the back cover we find 'Hundreds and hundreds of years ago we women have a great treasure inside. Cookies, chocolate, candies? Nothing of that. Women carry within us something much more important, much more beautiful '.

Now if you want to know a little more about this project, read on. We have brought Carla to tell us a little more about your initiative: She is a therapist trained in dance, clown and theater, oriented to the search and expression of the genuine through the body. She has also been co-creator of the Alert Program in emotional education and self-esteem for children and adolescents.

Peques and More.- When did the interest in emotional education in children arise in you?

Carla Trepat.- My sister had her first daughter at 19, they lived in a cave in Tenerife and now they raise their daughter at home. I know that it is extremist in many ways, although for me it represents a model of freedom and trust. It opened a world of possibilities and responsibility for my life, now I know that I choose, in many things, how I want to live.

The relationship with Saida, my niece, was difficult because of the distance and grew there my desire and curiosity for education and children. I researched Rudolf Steiner, Montessori, Mauricio and Rebecca Wild, ... I think that formal education lacks human contact, looks, smiles, ... that emotions have a space in the classroom, since they show us inside and it is vital to grow healthy listening to them, in addition to creating a deep bond with others.

PyM.- What activities are part of the Alegra program that you have been coordinating?

C.T.- The Alegra program is a training for fathers, mothers and educators in Emotional Intelligence and Self-Esteem, where knowledge learning is integrated with personal transformation, through reflection on the biography itself, listening, emotional management, empathic communication.

It is based on the premise that children grow and learn by modeling the attitudes and behaviors of the adults around them, these are their main educational references. We dedicate time and space to boost the Adult's Self-Esteem and Emotional Intelligence to be a good reference. It is an 8-day intensive nature training divided into two modules. A very experiential and integrative experience.

PyM.- Why do you think sex education from the family is important?

C.T.- From a very young age I played to give myself pleasure in privacy and with friends of the class. It seemed strange to me that adults "who know everything" did not tell me anything, that I had to do it secretly when it was for me, something that gave me joy and pleasure.

Simply I think that recognizing this child's need is healthy, and that establishing a communication and trust link from a very young age is positive. Also so that later, in adolescence, boys and girls feel calm to be able to talk with parents.

What better gift than to accompany girls to know and love themselves through a story

PyM.- Tell us about Lilith, who is it?

C.T.- Lilith, according to Genesis, is the woman created in the likeness of God, just like Adam. In the relationship they both had, Lilith felt little respected and treated like an inferior being, so she decided to leave. Adam was left alone and asked God to create a woman for him, so God created Eve from Adam's rib.

Eva is the woman we have had as a model in this society. Almost no one knows Lilith, for me it is a symbol of freedom, awareness and courage. A woman who listens to her intuition and acts accordingly. I believe that recovering this essence is vital.

PyM.- I really like the idea of talking about pleasure, sexuality, and the menstrual cycle to girls (even since they are little). What has inspired you to write a story to talk in such a beautiful way about topics that even today are taboo?

C.T.- This trip began for me a long time ago, when I heard my grandmother say "I have never had an orgasm." This phrase was engraved in my mind and, like a little light, has been appearing in my life, whispering at night and reminding me that generation of women for whom sexual pleasure was forbidden, unknown ...

And I asked myself what is left of that repression now in me? I think there is a repression in the form of silence, and this silence also educates me, and much. In fact, it has been necessary to break it and talk, investigate, ask, ... create this story.

PyM.- What do you think girls need to tell them about the woman's body? Do you do well that someone anticipates the changes that will come from pre-adolescence?

Close your eyes, put your hands on your belly and listen to the beats of the Flower of life. Such a simple practice to help pay attention to one's own body, how we are, and not outside, where they tell us how we should be

C.T.- I would have loved someone to introduce me to something that I am only now knowing, my uterus! This great unknown and vital for women, how I call it "the flower of life", know and learn to relax for, for example, have more pleasant periods and childbirth, in addition to being the center of creativity of every woman .

Formerly, Women of all ages had much more relationship with each other, and when something happened to one, all the others knew too, the little ones learned from the older, and the elders of the grandmothers, the transgenerational wisdom passed from mouth to mouth.

PyM.- Tell us some more details about the project to edit the story, and the response the initiative is receiving.

C.T.- Editing the story allows me to have a closer relationship with fathers, mothers, teachers, ... for me it is essential to receive your comments and have a closer relationship with them ... It is an incredible experience, I receive many e-mails a day congratulating me and that gives me courage to continue on this path, where this is the first step. Looking forward to continue learning and continue giving birth to my small creations.

PyM.- Surely all the readers of Peques and Más have daughters, or nieces, or granddaughters, why would it be a good gift 'Lilith's treasure'?

C.T.- Talking about sexuality and the menstrual cycle is important. More vital, it seems to me, to accompany girls from very young to listen to themselves, to their own body. Strengthening their self-esteem and confidence in themselves. Learn to love and respect every part of our body.

What better gift than to accompany them to know and love themselves through a story?

PyM.- And children do not also need to know about the woman's body? What do they learn by reading your story?

C.T.- Lilith's treasure shows a curious and self-confident woman. Teaching another model of women to children will help them to relate differently, in addition to creating closeness and empathy by knowing and understanding women's intimacies more closely.

For our part we can say that it has been a real pleasure to talk with Carla Trepat, author of 'The Treasure of Lilith'. If you want more information about the story, I invite you to consult the project in Verkami.
