Lying to the pediatrician as the last option to save your daughter's life

In recent years pediatricians and pediatric nurses are suffering the lies of some mothers, who ask questions about where their children sleep or what milk they drink, choose not to tell the truth so as not to receive reprimands like "the child has to sleep alone" or "is already more than a year old, take off his chest." They are lies that in no way affect the health of the baby and that, although it is not desirable because one is supposed to go to the pediatrician to get his son as healthy as possible, they can come to understand.

The story that I explain today goes from the same, from lie to the pediatrician, but for a much more powerful reason: this mother she became sure that something was wrong with her daughter and chose to lie to have the tests he thought he needed. Thanks to that the girl saved her life.

The day the hospital was and it was invented that her daughter had fallen and vomited

As we read in the Daily Mail, Amanda Davies, in a moment of despair, went to the hospital and it was invented that his daughter Lil, 3, had fallen, with the misfortune of hitting his head and throwing up later, all with the intention of having the tests he wanted.

Lil used to scream in pain, and in a year she had gradually lost her ability to walk, to which doctors said there was no reason to worry.

All normal until he turned two

Until two years old Lil was a normal girl, the typical girl awake and active. When he turned three, his parents began to worry because it seemed that I couldn't climb the stairs as usual, to the point that they had to start helping him by shaking hands to do so.

A month later they saw that she seemed to be unstable even when she was standing, so they went to the doctor, who urged them to take her another day because right then the girl had a respiratory infection.

Being healthy, they returned to the doctor, but this time another professional attended them, who referred them to a specialist to assess the case. Months went by and as long as they weren't notified for the appointment Lil's condition was getting worse. Not only could he not walk well, but he began to complain of headaches that a couple of times a day became stabbing, making the girl scream.

A new visit to the doctor was nothing, as he told them that they had already requested a referral to the specialist and that there was no need to speed things up. The parents, tired of waiting, looked for a private professional who could assist them and what he told them was that what Lil had was simply hypermobile joints, so he had more mobility than usual and what he needed was physical therapy.

The mother wanted to convince herself that yes, that was what her daughter had, but Google told her otherwise, that headaches could mean a tumor.

The day Amanda decided to lie

And he opted for what we would surely have done all the parents, looking for another solution, the one that was needed, so that someone took the girl's symptoms seriously at once. They went to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, saying that the girl had fallen. The first doctor who attended them, a young professional, asked the girl where she had been harmed. And you know, kids don't lie, so confessed that she had not fallen. Fearing that they were ignored, the mother chose to explain that she had very severe headaches, but he seemed to worry more about the girl's inability to walk, which at that time had legs like a baby's, without the possibility of keeping it standing. Together with another more experienced professional, they decided to do a brain scan, to which the mother responded with tears of thanks.

What they saw is that Lil had a tumor the size of a lemon in the back of his head, so the joy to see that they were finally paid attention turned to sadness and despair at a disease of such magnitude and at the memory of all those professionals who could not see anything serious. Luckily, the tumor was still in an operable phase and the girl's life could be saved. According to doctors, only a few more weeks would have been enough to not be able to do anything for her.

Four days after diagnosis, the girl was operated for 10 hours in an operation in which the tumor was removed, and since then she has regained her abilities until she was almost a normal girl, although some instability in the feet persists. The problem is that there is a 30 to 50% chance that the cancer will occur again, but now Lil is being monitored and every 3 months they visit her to do new tests.

A series of catastrophic misfortunes

The truth is that I don't know how the health system works in Wales, but what you just read is not one more than a series of unexplained events, one behind the other. A few moments ago I saw in the consultation a girl who yesterday had an episode of dizziness and instability, to the point of vomiting, and after an analysis they decided to do a cranial CT. I cannot understand that a girl who is stopping walking is not done. I cannot understand that a girl who, besides stopping walking, complains of a headache is not done. So what has happened to that family is a serious diagnostic failure of all the doctors who visited her. Normal they decided to lie.
