Five tips to choose the ideal gynecologist for your pregnancy

Having a good gynecologist to guide and accompany us during pregnancy can greatly improve our experience. On the contrary, having one with which we do not feel comfortable can make these visits to know more about our baby not as pleasant as we imagine.

That is why it is very important to have a good gynecologist. Either because you still don't choose one or have decided to change it, I share some tips to find and choose the ideal gynecologist to accompany you in your pregnancy.

Search for several options before choosing

Choosing a gynecologist carefully is important, as it is the health professional who will accompany you and guide you throughout your pregnancy. If you already have one with which you feel comfortable, excellent! But if you do not have one or do not feel comfortable with the current one, you should pay special attention when doing your search.

There is a perfect gynecologist for all women, so the first step I recommend is look for several options so you have the opportunity to choose properly and investigate a little about each one.

Do some research about him or her.

Currently many doctors have their own social networks to be closer to their patients, or there are even directory-type portals such as Doctoralia, where you can read the comments and ratings from other patients who have gone to consult with the doctors there.

Probably doing a quick Google search you will find some reference of him or her and that will give you a guide of the services offered, as well as the opinions of who your patients have been.

Ask for references to friends or acquaintances

For me this is a very important point. Although, of course, other people's opinions will help us get an idea about the treatment and services they offer, The gynecologist of your dreams could arrive through a referral by a friend or relative.

In my case, for example, I had to change from gynecologist to mid-pregnancy because with which I was going, I did not take with enough seriousness the discomforts that I had, which eventually made me seek a second opinion and detected a urinary tract infection, which of not having been attended, could have had serious consequences.

After this experience, I consulted with some friends who recommended me to my current gynecologist and with which I find more than satisfied and above all, very comfortable.

Seek to go with your beliefs and interests

Another aspect that you should take into account is finding a gynecologist That is in the same harmony as you, that is, that I agree and support you in the decisions and defend your interests, as long as these are the best for you and your baby.

Although most of the gynecologists who accompany you in pregnancy are more a kind of guide, It is important that it allows you to make decisions, to listen to you and give you the freedom to choose details of your delivery, such as allowing you to make a birth plan, among other things.

The most important thing: that you feel comfortable

For me, of these five points that I share, this is the most important. Find a gynecologist to support you, to listen to you and with which you also feel comfortable asking absolutely everything, it's like finding a gold mine or taking out the lottery.

Throughout my reproductive life I have gone through three gynecologists. The first one I found at random in the phone book and I went like that without further ado, without references, opinions, or anything. It was a bad first experience. I don't know if the three times I went with her I was having a bad day, but her treatment was not friendly and every time I asked her something she felt she treated me like a fool.

When I got pregnant with my daughter I had already found the second gynecologist. Very professional and above all very friendly. But the fact that I did not give so much importance to my discomforts and what I have already told you made me change my gynecologist.

Today I am with the gynecologist who I hope to stay a lifetime. He is extremely professional, he listens to me very carefully and everything explains it to me patiently and kindly. In addition, he has a great sense of humor and there is no issue that we do not talk to each other with complete confidence. It makes me feel heard and that none of the doubts I have is ridiculous, unlike that first gynecologist.

From my personal experience I believe that beyond its popularity, A good gynecologist is one with whom you feel comfortable, listen to you, take care of you and respect your decisions.
