Pregnancy increases the risk of having a myocardial infarction four times

The study is still a bit "in diapers", because it is still not understood why a myocardial infarction can be related to pregnancy and something more important, to prevent the heart attack by knowing which pregnant women have the highest risk of suffering it.

At the moment, the results of the research of Duke University (USA), show that pregnancy increases the risk of having a myocardial infarction four times. To reach this conclusion, they turned to the database of the Institutes of Health of the whole country, studying the incidence of myocardial infarctions in pregnant women.

The researchers affirm in the study published in the journal "Circulation", that there are more and more pregnant women between the ages of 40 and 44, and this may be a reason for risk. They also consider that some pathologies such as thrombophilia (a disorder that causes blood clotting), diabetes, hypertension, smoking, postpartum infections, among other incidents, increase the risk of having a myocardial infarction during pregnancy.

High levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy mixed with smoking can be a great risk and possibly the large vascular activity contributes to it. Avoiding everything that increases the risks, preventing those that already exist and greater control of pregnant women in old age, could cause the rates of myocardial infarction in pregnant women to decrease.
