Caesarean section shortens breastfeeding

I always maintain that thanks to caesarean sections, many lives are saved every day, but the problem arises when they are abused, a situation that has been going on a lot lately and hopefully with the new trend of more humanized labor care, it will begin to diminish.

Michel Odent, is the author among other titles of the books The Baby is a mammal and Caesarean section, problem or solution? He is an expert in the subject and a student of the consequences of this practice both in women, as in the baby, as in social phenomenon.

The gynecologist has been in Jarrio, Asturias, where he has warned that Caesarean section reduces breastfeeding and that in it is the explanation of why breastfeeding decreases more and more in the world.

The increasing number of cesarean deliveries, especially in countries such as China and Latin America, has significantly decreased the rates of mothers who breastfeed their babies by modifying a traditional eating behavior of humans.

As he has commented, when a cesarean delivery or an oxytocin-induced birth occurs, a lower hormonal stimulus occurs in the milk-producing mammary glands.

So scientifically it is true that there is a decrease in the segregation of hormones, the woman who wants to do it can breastfeed her baby so she has given birth by caesarean section, by normal delivery or has been stimulated with oxytocin as has been my case, which I have been 14 months breastfeeding

Obviously there is a very worrying trend. Too many caesarean section and many unnecessary is not a new issue although, let's be optimistic, there is hope that they begin to shrink and this also impacts on an improvement in breastfeeding.
