More and more cases of childhood allergies occur and last longer

The Johns Hopkins Children's Center has published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology the results of a research they have been conducting for thirteen years on the incidence of childhood allergies. The most common are adverse reactions derived from the consumption of milk and eggs, it is estimated that up to 8% of children in the EU under three years of age suffer from an allergy, while in Spain it affects 5%, according to the EFA .

The aforementioned research aims to find out why the most common food allergies, for this they have had 800 patients with milk allergy and almost 900 patients allergic to eggs. Later they will analyze another sector also with a lot of incidence, those allergic to peanuts.

The researchers conclude that In addition to that there are more and more cases of childhood allergies, these are more durable, take much longer to overcome or even become chronic. An example is that so far, 75% of children who had a milk allergy, stopped having it around three years, but each time the figures are less promising, it is currently known that only one fifth exceeds at four years and 42% at eight years. Similar figures are given with children suffering from egg allergy.

There is much talk about allergies and their possible causes, but these scientists still do not know why. The treatment against food allergies is based on the cancellation of the food intake that causes the reaction, but the possibility of future vaccines is being assessed, as some researchers believe that controlled exposure to food allergens could be the solution.
