Depression in pregnancy and its consequences

The link between the mother and the baby in pregnancy is such that any circumstance that affects the mother also affects the baby in gestation.

The biological processes that are triggered when the mother suffers from depression influence the development of the fetus. A new study corroborates it.

This is a research conducted in the United Kingdom that studies the consequences of prepartum depression. To do this, experts evaluated the level of depression in pregnancy of more than 11,000 women and any type of problem in the development of their babies.

They found that women with suffered from this disorder were 50% more likely to have children with certain problems and that prepaid depression has a negative impact on the cognitive development of the baby.

They have also discovered that it favors premature births and that persistent depression during pregnancy predisposes in most cases to suffer postpartum depression.

One of the great enemies of depression in pregnancy is its undervaluation. Many future moms don't even know how to identify a depression by attributing it to factors they consider normal.

It seems to me that prenatal check-ups should pay more attention to the psychological aspect of the pregnant woman. I do not say that gynecologists should become psychologists, but as I have already commented, the pregnant woman needs more personalized medical attention to detect possible mental disorders such as depression. That way you could get professional help and live your pregnancy better.

I think that in the field of pregnancy psychology there is still a long way to go.
