School bags and position in desks, important for health

Every year around this time with the return to school, news comes to us, on the one hand, about what it costs economically to return to the classroom, and, on the other, of the health problems that can lead to children.

Acclimatization to the schedule, sleeping hours and back problems when loading the backpack are important issues to consider when September arrives. With respect to correct way to load the backpack and sit at the desks, experts remember that there are certain guidelines so that children do not have back problems.

  • The weight of school bags must not exceed 10% or 15% of the child's body weight.

  • It is important adapt the height of desks at school and study tables at home so that the child's spine should be at 90 degrees to the hips and knees should be at 90 degrees with the feet supported when sitting. Bringing the head, neck and spine forward can create overload.

  • When walking (with or without a backpack), you have to ensure that the weight is distributed properly and there are no inappropriate postures, for which you have to look at the postural habits of the child to walk and monitor the wear on the sole of your shoes to locate possible anomalies.
  • You also have to watch the position of the dolls when using objects such as the computer keyboard or video games, since it should not be forced flexing.
  • In addition, remember that the backpack will have to be changed every year or 2 years, since its size has to be appropriate to the age and size of the children, it cannot be excessively large. The lower part of the backpack should be about 5 centimeters above the waist. In this way the backpack does not harm the lower back, more sensitive than the dorsal.
