Travel to Amsterdam with a baby

He Trip to Amsterdam can be ideal to do with a baby, I did it a few months ago and it was a wonderful experience. The main reasons are that it is a fairly comfortable city to walk, safe and with many quiet places to rest and many visits adapted to go with a baby carriage. I'm going to give you some tips for your visit to Amsterdam with a baby.

As I say, there is no need to resort to public transport once we arrive in Amsterdam. Although the tram service is very complete, to get around the most emblematic places (and taking several days) it is not necessary to use it.

We will take nice walks (yes, taking care not to get into the places destined for the ubiquitous bicycles) with the only drawback of some cobblestone streets in a somewhat irregular way, where the stroller will give enough tumbles ... So if we have the opportunity to take the stroller " light ”or for a walk, accustomed to the SUV, better.

The famous Vincent Van Gogh Museum and the National Museum, the Rijksmuseum, are highly recommended (and adapted for strollers).

Even if we go with a baby we will not have to keep a tail in the Van Gogh, since there is an elevator that we can climb with preference (warning at the box office before), which is appreciated quite given the high waiting time to enter to this requested museum ...

What we can't miss is a boat ride through the fabulous canals of Amsterdam. There are many companies that offer this “mini-cruise”, between one hour and two hours long, with different boarding places. It is a great walk, and more if we have a guide (or audio guides) in Spanish. The camera or video is essential to immortalize the journey.

And although some of the boat companies offer the opportunity to come up with the baby carriage (it was precisely the one that I chose for this reason, The Blue Boat Company), you don't have to trust it. The cart stays at the jetty, where people outside can not access and there is a person watching.

Although I insisted on passing the stroller (my baby was sleeping at the time) the captain told me that this was a ship and that it did not happen, to which I replied that then what they were deceiving on the Internet, where the opposite information was given . In the end with a face of circumstances he told me that it was somewhat complicated to climb the carriage and that he would reserve a good place for us, but the baby came into his arms. Anyway, soon, with the beauty of the surroundings, the matter was forgotten and my baby continued sleeping.

There are other famous museums in Amsterdam, such as the beautiful clandestine attic church. This is a church installed in the upper part of three united buildings, and it is a highly recommended visit, although in this case it is impossible to go with the stroller, which they keep in the reception. They are old houses, without elevator, with narrow stairs to go up floor by floor.

Regarding the Red Light District of Amsterdam, it is a safe, discreet and crowded place especially by tourists during the day, so there is no problem in walking through it. At night, the visit is less advisable, as it is said that there could be drug trafficking problems, drunk visitors, robberies ...

If we feel like riding a bike through Amsterdam, there are many bike rental companies, and there will be no problem in finding models that include baby carriers. An ideal place for cycling or walking is the largest green area of the cityVondelpark, a great place to relax and enjoy.

And another great corner that we should not miss is the Patio de Begijnhof, a haven of peace surrounded by the city, or the flower market, a colorful space next to the canal. But above all, stroll and stroll through the delicious streets of Amsterdam, delight in its houses, its canals, its squares ... And do not forget a good raincoat, umbrella and raincoat for the stroller, because it is very likely that the rain will surprise us at any time .

About where to choose the accommodation, we can choose between rental house or hotel. Better to choose ground floors in terms of rental houses, Internet companies usually give that information and even recommend better areas (around Dam, Jordaan neighborhood ...; better avoid the Red Light District or areas away from the center).

There are some old hotels, small or without elevator, more oriented to young tourism without children, so it is interesting that we contact the establishment that interests us before or inform us of its characteristics to make sure that our baby and we will be comfortable. On my trip to Amsterdam we stayed at a strategic and highly recommended point, next to the Dam Square, the starting point for interesting walks, very central and with all kinds of services nearby. In addition, it is close to the Central Station (10 minutes walking), where we leave the train we take to leave Schipol airport to Amsterdam.

Regarding pharmacies, supermarkets or places to eat or have a snack, we will not find it difficult to find them in the busiest areas. English is understood by almost everyone in Amsterdam, so we can communicate in that language.

Anyway, if you are thinking about A trip to Amsterdam with your babyIt is certainly a wonderful and peaceful place that they will also enjoy.
