An unprotected baby in the car receives the same impact as a fall from a third floor

Awesome, right? That is the conclusion reached by experts after doing a crash test to check the consequences of taking children without an adequate retention system.

It has been carried out in the framework of the presentation of the new national campaign "Safety is a journey that starts as a child" launched by Chicco and RACE to train and educate parents about the measures that must be taken to ensure the safety of children during all journeys.

To cause impact on the parents (and on me it has caused it), nothing better than the evidence. In case of a crash at 64 km / h, an unprotected baby in the car receives the same impact as a fall from a third floor.

As much as we think we control it, it is impossible to hold a baby in your arms in case of a crash. In the test that was done with a Dummy (a doll that is used for this type of tests), it first gave several impacts against the dashboard to end by breaking the windshield with the back. He suffered serious damage that would have fatal consequences on a newborn child.

We talk about a newborn baby who is in arms, a situation that is repeated frequently after delivery, when the child is taken home from the hospital. In general, they are short distances in which the safety seat or approved carrycot is not used.

Of course, one does not find it comparable to carry the baby in the arms of the car than to throw it from a third floor, but the risk is comparable.

The same test also involved a Dummy pretending to be an 18-month-old baby properly tied in his group I safety chair, recommended for his age. When he crashed, he suffered no damage. It is shocking, but the difference between using a retention system or not using it can be the child's life.

The figures are chilling and it is up to the parents to try to reduce them. The accident data confirm that the car is the main cause of infant mortality, especially in the first stages of age, in the section between the newborn and the first year of age.

These studies make us aware of how important it is to always take the baby properly held in the car in its child restraint system, however small, even if we go very close or only two minutes.
