Review books for the holidays, yes or no?

In the time of holidays the review books for the children For some, they are a way to entertain children in a fun way by refreshing the contents they have seen in school during the year. However, there are parents who see them as counterproductive, as vacations are exclusively for children to play freely and do what they want. The dilemma is: holiday review books, yes or no?.

It must be said that books (you will have seen them in supermarkets and bookstores; at this time they are everywhere) are not tedious books. They are booklets with activities, readings, games, coloring pictures and stickers aimed at children of all ages. Each book has the appropriate contents for each educational level.

They are not boring and monotonous homework booklets (they shouldn't be). The idea is to stimulate the little ones through proposals that they find attractive and that way they review the concepts they have learned in school.

Some even come with a help guide for parents, so that we can explain any doubts they may have regarding activities.

I don't see anything bad in the books themselves. What I disagree with is the use they are sometimes given.

I see them positive for the child, if the child likes them. there are some really beautiful ones starring their favorite characters, with very entertaining and creative activities, manual projects, outdoor experiments, etc. A very important point is knowing how to choose the right book.

It's good entertainment provided the child has fun and does not become an obligation. It is not necessary to impose a schedule to carry out the activities or turn it into a “make the booklet so you do not bother”.

The main thing is that it is an activity with which the child feels motivated. The desire to make the booklet must arise from it, without stress or pressure.

It is also not productive for the child to spend the holidays doing review books. You must live new experiences, meet new things, play outdoors, etc. Not only do you learn through a book, the world is full of interesting things to learn from.

Finally, it seems good to teach them that reading is not a "thing" of school, but also instilling the pleasure of reading on vacation. But it is true that for this there are reading books.

I think vacations are a time to let the child do what he wants in freedom and without pressure. If the holiday review books They are entertaining and also learn, I do not see why not. What do you think?
