"Motherhood" by Paul Gauguin

The theme of motherhood in art has left very beautiful and interesting works. These paintings depicting "Motherhood" by Paul Gauguin, are from the author's Tahitian period.

The issue of motherhood was addressed by Gauguin several times. The painter saw in the births of children and in the strength of the mother-filial ties a motive that served to express his intellectual concerns about the mystery of life.

The paintings are very similar, with three female figures that seem united with the landscape and that realize the importance of women and the group. One of them, sitting on the floor, is breastfeeding a baby.

These paintings are from the time when Gauguin had retired to live in Tahiti, dissatisfied with the western way of life and with the desire to immerse himself in contact with nature and simplicity. Something he found on the island and that is reflected in the works like the ones we see.

The second of the images was made by Gauguin around 1899 in Polynesia, when his young lover of 17 years was about to give birth to the couple's son.

I find two beautiful works, with a colorful and fabulous strokes. "Maternity" by Paul Gauguin in his two versions are paintings that convey tenderness and naivety, with women in union with their children and with nature.
