Two sisters of five and eight years survive two days lost in the bush, thanks to a survival course

The sisters Leia and Caroline Carrico, aged eight and five, were lost last Friday, March 1, through a forest in California (USA). Two days later, Humboldt's sheriff's office reported on his Twitter account that they had been located safe and sound after 44 hours wandering in the forest in very harsh conditions.

The mother has assured CNN that her daughters knew how to act thanks to a survival course they attended. Do you think this type of camps and activities can help?

A survival story

Leia and her little sister Caroline live with their parents in a town in California, about 322 miles north of San Francisco. On Friday afternoon they went for a walk near their house, but they got lost and ended up spending the weekend in the woods.

In an interview with CNN, the girls recounted their adventure from when they got lost until they found refuge under a fallen branch, which Leia described as "a cave of blueberry bushes".

Leia explained that they drank water from the cranberry leaves and used an anorak as a blanket. He admitted that he felt "Nervous and a little scared and we felt so cold that our hands turned white."

Nor did they have food, Leia says that "Our stomachs protested all night."

The girls' father, Travis Carrico, has explained that his daughters spend a large part of the day away from home, so he was not scared at first when they did not return, but he did worry as time went by. Recognize that "I spent two days crying non-stop, looking for all the places that I could think of".

Superheroines or miracle?

Time when girls meet their family

We have already spoken on other occasions of children who save the lives of others, such as the little boy who helped a choking classmate, or the girl who helped to attend his aunt's birth. But it is usually thanks to documentaries or videos that children watch on the Internet. Because survival techniques such as resuscitation maneuvers (for example) remain a pending subject at least in Spanish schools.

Now, Misty, the mother of Leia and Caroline, says that the 4H program, attended by their daughters, has saved their lives. He thinks that without the survival skills in nature they taught him, they might not be alive.

And it is that according to the sheriff of the county where they reside and who was responsible for the search, the small ones were located just over two kilometers from their home in the Richardson Grove State Park. According to your office finding them well was a "miracle", given the harsh terrain conditions where the girls were

By the way! In case you wonder if the girls will be punished for going so far alone, the mother says no: "They did the right thing. They saved each other. I am the proudest mother in the world. I have raised superheroes."
