Why children get mouth sores

I don't know if this happened to you, but I have a very vivid memory of my childhood with annoying mouth sores, also calls Cold sores, sucking those strange red "candies" with a wide white stick that soothed the pain.

Now, as an adult, the occasional one has come out, although less than in the past, and Jon, my oldest son, has already had mouth sores on a couple of occasions. As they are annoying and frequent in children today we are going to talk about why children get mouth sores.

What are mouth sores or canker sores

The first thing we are going to explain is what are the mouth sores of our children: Canker sores are wounds in the mucosa of the mouth, almost like burns, with a whitish or yellowish center and a flushed edge. They are very upset at mealtime, sometimes at the time of speaking and they hurt if we rub or rub them with our tongue or teeth.

There are those who have related them to herpes, because they leave from time to time and the days go by, but it is not the same nor is it really related.

Why mouth sores appear

When we see a child with mouth sores we usually think that it is due to a lack of hygiene. Well, it is true that if children do not brush their teeth as much as they should, can appear thrush, however, it is also true that they can also appear when the hygiene is correct, because there are many more reasons that cause them.

Canker sores can be caused by viral infections that affect the mouth or by bacterial infections (fruit of poor hygiene, as we have said). They can also occur at times when we walk low defenses, with the immune system touched by some previous situation and, of course, they can appear if the dentist has done something in the mouth of our children (an intervention or cleaning too aggressive).

Another reason that seems to be related is the lack of vitamins and minerals in our body, being the lack of iron, vitamin b12 and folic acid that can most affect.

How to prevent sores in our children's mouths

Well knowing the causes, all you have to do to avoid its appearance is to take everything into account and act accordingly. With this I say nothing but offer our children a varied diet so that there are no deficiencies and good hydration. With all this, the tissues are kept in good condition and the mouth is moist and hydrated to avoid such annoying setbacks.

Obviously, to prevent, we must also be attentive to children's dental hygiene. This will prevent the accumulation of bacterial plaque and minimize the chances of their appearance.

If they appear at the end, know that they disappear alone, doing nothingAfter a few days, taking into account that they can hurt a lot and that, in that case, it is advisable to treat them to soothe the pain.
