Sweet garlands for the Christmas tree

I have brought you a very nice idea to 'light up' your Christmas tree: with these garlands of sweet 'lights' you do not have to worry about whether children burn or risk manipulating without realizing plugs or cables.

I have to thank Pamela (Unodedos), our companion of Direct to the Palate, for this fantastic post, which details the whole process to make the lights most desired by children. Parents are going to need the help of the children, and the little ones will be the guide of the elders, and at some point in the process it will be necessary to be very careful so that they do not get hurt.

What do we need?

  • Green rubber candies, m & m's of different colors, a knife, a lighter, red thread, needle, thimble.

How do we make our sweet lights?

As Unodedos points out, it is important make sure we have all the elements ready to avoid having to get up from the worktable, and interrupt our activity.

First, the rubber candies are cut in half (there should be as many pieces as we need lights), they will form the hoods of the 'light bulbs'. Then we choose 'm & m's with colors similar to those of the lights that shine in the Christmas trees that we are used to seeing.

We will only use the lighter, and we will do it to heat the cut area of the caramel, in order to soften the sugar and make it easier to paste the corresponding 'm & m's'.

Finally we will prepare thread, needle and thimble and we will form our garland by skewering the bulbs by the caps (it is better to tie near the needle and not cut the thread of the spool until we finish). When we have it ready we can decorate our tree, it will be spectacular (Do not forget to take a picture because I doubt it lasts every holiday).

The difficulty is low, and I would personally set the time of realization in 60 minutes (let's take into account the rhythms of the children, the scuffles between brothers' I have seen that you have eaten one! And the interruptions to go to the kitchen to drink Water).

If you choose to use other types of candies, remember that they do not need to be 'brand' but yes they are 'safe' (reliable origin, clear ingredients and establishment of trust). Although the truth is that the emamens meet the conditions to become small bright bulbs of the most appetizing.

Right now I am showing the images of Unodedos to my oldest son and he is delighted with the proposal. Although according to him this idea has its drawbacks because when mom or dad leave the room to heat dinner or collect clothes, the kids would take the opportunity to eat the 'sweets', and the whole process would have to be repeated.

So be careful because this garland can not cause electric shocks, but perhaps if some indigestion ... put it high on the tree and rationed the consumption of sweets at Christmas.
