Musical games with children (II)

These days we have desire to march, music and fun. We continue with the second installment of musical activities with children, today with our proposals to discover the qualities of sound that we still have left: intensity and duration.

Distinguishing the loud sounds from the soft ones is something that from an early age has already been assimilated. But to be aware of this, several activities can be used that will also make children observe and analyze their environment. One of the easiest is to pay attention to a leafy poplar (or any other tree) whose leaves are swayed by a gentle breeze.

The sound they produce will go from silence (this parameter that is also important to work and, above all, appreciate) when the wind does not blow, passing through a soft murmur, to a considerable rumor. And if the intensity of the wind increases we can reach a vigorous heat.

We can also imitate the sound of an incipient and light rain that is taking body and, little by little, it becomes a downpour. To do this, we will "clapping" first with one finger, then with two ... until the whole hand is used, thus increasing the intensity.

Once the strongest point is reached (we can hit our chest, gut and thighs), we reverse the process, until the rain escapes. Children love to imitate this "rain" with their body and eye, also with ours ... They have a great time.

Finally, to work on the duration of sound with older children, we propose the following practice: send messages using the Morse code.

For this we can use a whistle or a flute (with no intention of making a joke) to emit a sound, following the code, that children have to have in front (short-point, long-line). The children will be pointing on a paper the combinations of long and short sounds that correspond to the letters of the message.

We will go letter by letter, clearly indicating when we go from one to another. Once "dictated" all the letters that will be noted, the children will decipher the word or message, consulting the Morse code. Their names, that of the city, that of their friends, little phrases ...

In addition, do not deprive yourself of listening to the waves of the sea with a conch, create the "crazy phone" with a rope and two tubes, do karaokes, sing and dance, going from slow to fast and hypervelocity ...

We hope you have a nice time with these musical games for children, so that they appreciate the music while having fun. And hopefully we put them into practice on more than one occasion throughout the year, because it's always a good time to play.
