Seat belt for children, also on buses

The RACC (Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia) and Jané have prepared a study on child road safety, in this case focused on coach safety.

The research has carried out a survey in different provinces to find out what they think and what concerns parents and mothers with safety in the matter of coaches.

They have also made a technical analysis of school transport and the importance of using belts in coaches in order to reduce the risk of injury in boys and girls in case of accident.

After analyzing the results, the RACC requests a Spanish regulation for the testing of child safety systems for coaches, since the incorporation of seat belts throughout the Spanish fleet will not take effect until 2020 and there are many buses that do not incorporate them. Also frequent are those that they don't use belts despite having them, according to the survey.

In addition, something that seems absolutely logical and essential to me is that a modification of the regulation of drivers is included for that the breathalyzer limit tolerated during school transportation is 0.

On the RACC website we find a section with videos that reproduce simulations of impacts and overturns and that realize the importance of the use of belts.

Other measures by which they bet are the incentives from the RACC for the bus park renovation, the awareness of the vulnerability of children, especially from 0 to 3 years of age, the performance of mandatory drills and the establishment of protocols for the entry and exit of coaches in the vicinity of schools.

They seem great mediated to me, even considering that part of the study was carried out by an "interested" party, Jané, I agree with their conclusions.

Of course, as often happens in these cases, these measures need a strong investment and unfortunately in the balance this usually weighs more for administrations than the safety of children, because luckily accidents that occur in school transport have a minimal incidence. But no one should risk even with the slightest possibility ...
