A Health campaign will warn about the risks of alcohol in pregnancy

As every year, with Christmas, family or business meals, alcohol consumption increases. That is why this coming season takes on special relevance. The Campaign has the name of "The risks of alcohol consumption in pregnant women", and is part of the Action Plan on Prevention and Control of Damage Associated with Alcohol Consumption in Minors and Vulnerable Populations.

This is institutional advertising of the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Policy, a campaign in my opinion necessary, taking into account that it is estimated that between 25 and 50% of pregnant women in the European Union continue to consume alcohol during pregnancy.

Even analyzes of alcohol levels in newborns indicate that the prevalence of consumption during pregnancy could be greater than that estimated by conventional methods.

There is increasingly precise and abundant scientific evidence on the harmful effects of alcohol on the fetus at any stage of its development.

Therefore, the campaign seeks to raise awareness about the prevention of alcohol consumption in women during the preconception, planning, pregnancy and lactation period. During these stages, alcohol consumption affects the unborn and the baby.

It is also intended to discharge guilt to the woman, involving the couple and their entire environment as also responsible for the health of the baby. The campaign aims to escape the dramatic tone, especially as regards the issue of fetal alcohol syndrome, with serious consequences.
