The VIII edition of El Chupete will delve into the use that children and adolescents make of mobile devices

Smartphones and digital tablets are the new technological icon of the 21st century. Children and adolescents, known as multiscreen generation, represent the population segment that is most familiar with this technology and at very early ages. According to sources from the organization of El Chupete, in 2012 the average age at which Spanish children access smartphones is 13 years old.

With this premise, the theme “Smartphones and tablets in children and young people” will be addressed in this edition. A contest in the the use and enjoyment that children and adolescents make of these devices will be discussed, and how they are influencing different social, advertising and cultural contexts.

After seven successful editions, El Chupete has become a frame of reference on the latest trends in marketing and children's communication. A place of social and economic reflection that fosters the work and responsibility of the parties involved in this sector. The El Chupete Children's Communication Festival already has its headquarters for its VIII edition. Be the city of Madrid next July 5 - 6, 2012 at CALLAO CINES. An event that will delve into the impact of Smartphones and Tablets on children and young people.

Utilities of smartphones and some figures

Smartphones and tablets have generated new social contexts and have become new media. New media that, in the case of communication with children, require a lot of creativity as well as a great responsibility. That is why it becomes a must for communication and advertising professionals, as well as teachers and educators.

Remember that these devices begin to combine everything a child or young person of the 21st century needs: entertainment (games, videos, music ...) and communication. According to sources at the El Chupete Festival in 2012, 65% of children between 8 and 12 years old have a mobile phone; Almost 38% of children under 13 have smartphones and 40% of children between 8 and 18 access the Internet from their mobile

What can these figures do for us? It seems that we can use them to analyze the new communicative scenarios that are beginning to be generated.

This new timeless and delocalized communicative ecosystem has allowed television consumption among young people to be realized from mobile devices; or that there is already a segmentation of devices by age: young people prefer smartphones, children tablets.

Rodrigo Ron who is the general director of 'The pacifier' comments: 'Tablets and Smartphones are new means available to everyone, also children. From El Chupete this year we will deepen the good use of mobile devices and thanks to great professionals we will explain how to reach children and young people in a creative and responsible way '

During these days they will participate experts and professionals in communication, advertising and education, thus turning the event into the international epicenter of children's communication and advertising.

Topics to be addressed at the Festival

This edition contains a very relevant element because social, educational and advertising changes will be analyzed that have arisen before the appearance of this technology and that affect children and adolescents.

Another issue that will be addressed is the role that leisure plays in these supports, since this new technology combines everything young people need: games, music, videos, internet ... special attention will be given to the phenomenon of children's apps.

Since its birth eight years ago 'El Chupete' aims to have a marked social objective that is maintained throughout the successive editions: the concern for communication aimed at children. To promote and improve the quality of this type of communication, this festival rewards every year the best children's communication work.

From here we will keep you informed about the developments that occur around this Festival.
